I SO appreciate your making this video. You share insights that I've felt but never heard anyone else have. I too had irregular periods all my life (and very little breast development) and was overweight since childhood. I felt SO left out of the "women club" and it had a profound effect on me. Like you, I'm tall, and in past videos you talked about feeling the need to wear dresses and do things to be feminine- me too! I hated that my doctor put me on birth control when I was 16, which i only took for a few months. Reducing carbs (not even to keto, to like 50g a day) has been the only thing to help. And when my periods started to come back to normal, they were SO heavy and i made the joke to a friend that I was 'making up for missed periods". I love your channel Ally! thank you for being so honest and vulnerable.
Thanks for sharing your experience and it’s not TMI it’s just biology like you said! So glad you found keto and were able to balance your hormones naturally. Just a side question, now that you are on maintenance, do you still stick to 20 net carbs a day or have you increased this slightly to provide more calories? I’m almost at maintenance stage too and I don’t want to go back onto grains or legumes but I’d like to maybe add some onion, tomato and peppers back into my diet but these are quite “ carby”
Thanks for sharing your experience. I also have pcos and insulin resistance and I'm trying to reverse it with a keto diet. I'm not overweight but I gain weight very easily if I eat carbs. My cycles after starting keto is being very short (25 days) and they are getting lighter overtime. I hope the length of my cycle goes back to normal.. together with my acne I have since I was 14 (I'm 32). Before keto and my pregnancy I was just like you, having a period once in a while. I had to go through a specialist to be able to conceive. I'm trying for my second baby now, hope I don't need to go back to the doctor for this.
Its interesting but when I was very obese over 220 pounds i too started to have ultra heavy periods and it was amd. I bleed for 3 weeks heavily it was so bad i become aneamic so i made a change I lost some weigh and change came my period normalised i am still obese but working on it. I diet only for 2 months so change was quite quick. I just couldnt deal with the periods. I manage my weight with water fasts, omad diet and diabetic diet….I am not diabetic but this diet help with insulin spiking. I want složky releasing foods.
I dont want to spam your channel, I am not normally someone who advertises my own channel/blog in someone else's comment stream but my experience and my 8 year old daughter 🙂 is a HUGE testament to how low-carb can cure PCOS and fix fertility issues, no meds, no hormones, no drugs. GOD I sound like an advertisement. Ally, please message me (Aimee Moisa) on FB if you would like a link to my blog to read my personal story about how low-carb got me pregnant. 😉
Just diagnosed a few weeks ago at age 38. Always have had abnormal, heavy, painful periods and just issies with hormone balances and weight. Never had any hair growth or fertility issues. Nealy a month keto. Still learning. Hoping it helps to regulate everything. Such an honest video.
Well done Alley, you are an inspiration. Just wondering if you have any advice for someone who has tried every diet including Keto and failed. I’ve tried Keto around 6 times now but I just can’t stick to the recommended calorie allowance so I end up feeling like I’ve eaten too much and ultimately fail. I’m seriously miserable. 🙁
Thank you for the lady issues video! I was told I too have PCOS. I'm 38 and hoping the Keto diet helps me regulate and heal my body. It's so hard to be a woman and have no idea when your period is going to come!
I started Keto in January. I’m down 37 pounds so far but the reason I initially switched to Keto is because I HAD PCOS. Being Keto for the past 5 months has completely reversed my PCOS and all the symptoms that came with. In January, I was still on birth control with Keto… it was definitely a lot of bleeding… I think I bled for over 20 days until I got off the pill and my body healed itself. Once I got off the pill, Keto regulated my period and now I have a regular 28 day cycle. The biggest part of all this is that previously, I couldn’t conceive and my doctors told me I wouldn’t be able to have kids but that has actually reversed itself, thank God. I don’t have any of the symptoms I had. Dark patches of skin on my body have lightened. I have so much energy. I don’t have excess hair growth. Everything is just so much better. Honestly your videos really helped me through the first few months my body transitioned. So thank you!
Hi Ally, I asked a question related to this a while back, and I appreciate that you made a video about it! Thank you! Here's another question that maybe you could shed some light on – I read that toxins can be stored in fat, and released as we lose weight. Did you experience any detox symptoms, and how did you stay on track?
I swear in Australia it is impossible to get a diagnosis. I had so many ultrasounds that looked fine, but then I have most of the other symptoms. And yet neither a GP or a Gyno ever specifically said 'you have PCOS' – instead they just give you a script for the pill!!!! (And my body doesn't tolerate hormonal contraception).
hey Ally, i cured pcos as well with keto.i was suffering from pcos from last 10 years and just in 4 months of being on keto i reversed it. i have regular periods from last 9 months.. i used to have just 2 or 3 times a year.. my docter still does not believe that just by diet change, i am regular now..
I am on my 5th month of Keto and I can tell the difference of my period already and I have an IUD. I never had a normal period and was diagnosed with PCOS at a younger age. About 3 years ago I had my period extremely heavy for a few months straight. I was so scared to go to the Dr. I was afraid I was going to be told I wouldn't be able to have kids. I finally went and was put on an IUD. I still have it but plan in getting it removed next year as my husband and I want to start trying. I have tried to loose weight many different ways. Keto has been the only thing that has worked long term so far. I am taking this year to better myself and lifestyle to hopefully make conceving easier. Still nervous but trying to do all I can.
I grew up with PCOS and it is horrible. No one diagnosed me. I did my research in my late twenties and then went to an endocrinologist and asked to be checked and tested. They did a big series of blood work (which was not covered by insurance) and sure enough I had it. It was bittersweet bec. now I knew what it was but there is no cure. I thankfully by the grace of God was able to get have a child. I am hoping Keto helps as time goes on as it has helped many other of my health conditions. Thanks for sharing your story.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I don't have PCOS but keto has made shark week … different. I'm hoping it evens out after a while, and your story is making me hopeful that it well. Welcome to the "sisterhood" haha!
Hi Ally, I just discovered your channel and love how down to earth you are. 🙂 You have great content and you take the confusion out of Keto in my opinion. PCOS is something I’ve had for years and I would love to get off off the meds. I have been attempting super lazy Keto but now You have inspired me to commit to Keto fully. I truly appreciate you and keep up the videos!
I never got diagnosed, but I have hair growth on my face, stomach, and chest, irregular periods, black skin patches, and acne. I've always been terrified that this could affect having children and i had no idea dieting and changing my lifestyle could fix this.
I really related to you about the birth control messing things up. In my 1st year college I was put on birth control and spironolactone and metformin… I gained 30 pounds in 3 months and it literally made me worse, it messed my whole system up. I was at a healthy weight and then after the 30 pounds were gained from it everything spiraled. I caution anyone with pcos who is considering starting on birth control.
